Learning Goals: What
are some parts of a cell? What do they do?
Set
up a KWL Chart in your lab notebook: 3 columns-- Column titles:
What I know about cells. What I want to know about cells. What I
have learned about cells.
Set
up 4 Stop to think areas, leaving 3- 4 lines under each.
Leave space for AQ

Think questions together: write your answers into your lab NB.
4. Go to the pictures
you drew from the Sciencesaurus book and using colored pencils color
your cells and label all parts and make sure you know the function of
each those parts. ( Look at your list of requirements for the Cell
Analogy Project and copy the function of the each part onto the
planning page.

CELL ANALOGY PROJECT EXPECTATIONS
DUE MARCH 14TH, 2014 AT THE END OF CLASS
CELL ANALOGY PROJECT:
CELL ANALOGY PROJECT:
Learning
Goal: Understand
the structures found in most cells and understand the
functions of the structures that are found in most cells.
Expectation#1:
MAKE
A MODEL OF A PLANT OR ANIMAL CELL
Identify
and label
the
structures that are found in most cells.
Write
out the functions of the structures that you have labeled.
You
must include the following
structures:
a. cell membrane
b. cytoplasm Ribosome
c. nucleus
d. nuclear membrane
e. mitochondria
f. cell wall-plant cells
only
g. vacuole
h. chloroplasts—plant
cells only
i. Endoplasmic reticulum
j. Golgi Complex
You
may need to do some research on your own to determine the function of
some of these structures
and determine if they belong in the plant or animal cell or are in
both.
Expectation
#2:
Connect
and communicate your
understanding of these functions in relation to something else that
you
know a lot about or have an interest in. You
must write this connection idea underneath your function information.
Examples:
The Cell walls of a plant
cell are like the walls of a skyscraper because both add support and
strength to the structures.
The coach of the basketball
team is like the nucleus of a cell because both tell their team
members what to do.
The football stadium
security guard is like the cell membrane as both determine who can
enter or leave.
RESOURCES:
Act
42 in textbook, sciencesauraus drawings in your notebook. You may
have to do more research on your own but you must site your source
and use scientific information sites.
MATERIALS:
Construction paper
Water color markers
Poster must be neat and
organized and well done. It should be colorful and readable and
display quality.

Research Web Sites Nuclear Waste in Granger?
Sites for research for Plate Tectonic Socratic Seminar
Weather/climate in the Granger area
Population information.
You can use Google to see a map of Granger. In this case (only for maps) you can site Google Maps as a source.
For comparison, you should see where the closest nuclear power plant (Cook Nuclear) is, near Bridgeman, MI. (It is just north of the Bridgeman area.)
Weather/climate near Cook Nuclear Power Plant
Population information near Cook Nuclear
Earthquake map
Information about nuclear waste shipping and storing in Illinois
A question to ask yourself is, “Why would a location want to store nuclear waste?”
Other helpful sites include the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, at http://www.nrc.gov/ and the Environmental Protection Agency at http://www.epa.gov/.
